This zine is a submission for the Zine Idea Generator 2.0 Jam, celebrating the new and improved Zine Idea Generation tool created by the Zine Crisis Mutual Assistance Group (ZC MAG). It was put together with the Electronic Zine Maker by alienmelon, and is made web- and mobile-friendly by the EZMreader tool by Jeremy Oduber.
My prompt for the jam was: create a randomly generated zine that reinterprets your relationship with your body.

This project pairs imagery created by artificial intelligence with words and thoughts by a real live human (me). The images were generated using DreamStudio by Stability AI, NightCafe, and Midjourney, which is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 4.0 International Public License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode).

Thank you for sharing this! I will try to give some thoughts here...
The question that you raise at the end is super hard to answer. In fact, I do not have an answer to this and I am even struggling to form an opinion whether I view it as art or not. Thinking about this brings me to a long series of questions. Talking about AI generated art means that you will also need to talk about art as a whole. What is art anyways? When does art happen? When do you become an artist?
AI can learn how to generate images, but does that imply that AI is able to learn to generate art? And regardless of if an AI can learn to generate art - is it even possible to teach art?
Personally, I believe that you can not teach art itself as it is not a definite thing. There is no clear definition. Anything can be art - art does not happen through a fixed definition or a definite set of rules. It happens through someones unique intentions, it is shaped through an individuals background and experiences. But it does not stop there, you even mentioned it in your text - art happens not only through the artist but through the people that view the art. What will they do with it? What are their thoughts and how do they reflect on the artists intentions? It is not possible to teach all those things.
But what you can teach are the practices that can be used in the process of creating art. You can teach those tools to an AI. But can you teach the AI to use these tools freely? Does an AI that runs on algorithms and data have creative freedom in what it is doing? Is it concious of what it is doing?
And a more general question that would be a topic of its own - does an artwork made by an AI belong to the AI or does it belong to the people that made the AI? Who is the artist? Who do we credit for it and why?
To me AI generated art raises a lot of questions that demand answers, but to get those answers it needs to be discussed. AI generated art needs to be talked about. It needs to be questioned. Just like art made by human beings. Does that mean that they are the same thing, does it mean that you can compare them to each other?
